Diversity in YA // This Week on Our Shelf Life

Hi everyone! What are you all doing to take advantage of this gorgeous Spring weather? We plan to go on a good, long drive, which will hopefully look something like this:

A yellow road division line with a blue sky in the background. The Passed Note is a literary magazine for young adults.

Here are some links from around the web that we love.

Love this interview with John Green, especially this quote on diversity in YA lit: “I think we need to do a lot more of that—speak out about the books we love. We need to speak out and to incentivize. When any author finds a book he or she loves, find a way to put it in the hands of your audience.”

We agree with everything on this list of books to be excited about in 2016, especially Gretchen McNeil‘s I’m Not Your Manic Pixie Dream Girl.

An oldie, but goodie–this wonderfully potty-mouthed list by Chuck Wendig about what YA is and what YA is NOT (and how to write it).

These buzzfeed lists of essential books written by Latinos and then, for a laugh, these extremely realistic YA novel plots.

Have a great weekend!
